proteins

Why do you use the blend of plant proteins you do?

In formulating a protein blend there are two main concerns. One is delivering a complete range of amino acids and the other is blending to ensure good mixability and mouth feel.

We’ve used our specific combination of organic pea protein with brown rice and pumpkin seed proteins to get both of these just right.

What can I mix my protein powder with?

We spent a long time formulating our products to taste great with just water. That said, they also taste amazing with various non-dairy milks such as oat and almond or other waters such as coconut.

Our personal favourite is about 50% water, 50% almond milk.

A word of caution though, choose quality non-dairy milks – some products contain thickeners and artificial sweeteners.

Is your protein a complete protein?

Yes. We’ve formulated all our blends with organic pea protein with brown rice and pumpkin seed proteins to include a complete range of amino acids.

Are your products organic?

Our products are made from a variety of organic ingredients, such as pea protein (which makes up a significant proportion of our powders) and a number of the greens powders.

Unfortunately, the cost of organic certification remains prohibitive for some of our smaller scale suppliers, and some of our ingredients (such as AlgaVia®) simply aren’t available in a certified organic variety.

Which sweeteners do you use?

Our Superblend and Performance use Natural Sweeteners (Stevia, Thaumatin – a protein from the African Katemfe fruit). The combination of all natural sweeteners provides a unique flavour profile and rounded taste. But if you’re looking for a non-sweetened/unflavoured protein we have our Pureblend.

Peakblend contains raw cane sugar and stevia. Peakblend is designed to deliver a combination of macronutrients, combining carbohydrates, fat and protein. The carbohydrate content in total is proportionally appropriate and lower than a typical carbohydrate containing meal. The sugar content (7g) is only a small contribution to the overall carbohydrate content in Peakblend (37g), the majority of carbohydrate being in the form of complex carbohydrates. It is worth noting the amount of sugar constitutes proportionally less than 5% of dietary energy, the threshold recommended by the Scientific Advisory Committee on Nutrition (SACN).  The high protein content of Peakblend coupled with significant amounts of fibre and fatty acids, means that the digestion and absorption of Peakblend is slowed, preventing a rapid and large rise in blood sugar.  i.e. Peakblend is not a high Glycaemic Index (GI) product.  The inclusion of some sugar does aid the utilisation of carbohydrate in Peakblend by triggering an insulin release, which not only helps utilise the carbohydrate in Peakblend but also uptake of the amino acids into muscle. This is important to ensure Peakblend can be used universally as a way of fuelling, especially for active people and those doing exercise. Of course, if you’re after a protein shake without any carbs you could look at any of our other proteins. Finally, the inclusion of a small amount of sugar also has the benefit of improving palatability, and reducing natural sweeteners which not everyone enjoys the taste of.

I find it a little too sweet / not sweet enough, what can I do?

Taste is very personal and sweetness especially so. If you find our protein blends a little too sweet, just add a little less powder or a little more liquid, or vice versa if you’d prefer it to be a bit sweeter.

Our usage guidelines are really just that. Experiment and make a shake that suits you.

Can your protein powders help me lose weight?

Our powders are ‘nutrient dense’, meaning the amount of nutrition you get per calorie is high, which can be beneficial if you are cutting calories to lose weight.

A high protein diet can also reduce appetite and help you avoid snacking between meals, helping you achieve your weight loss goals.

What kind of safety and quality control procedures do you have in place for your products?

All of our products go through the following procedure during manufacture to ensure they are both safe and precisely what you see written on the label.

·         Raw materials are only purchased from approved suppliers, who have passed a strict auditing
process.

·         All raw materials are tested for contaminants, heavy metals and harmful microorganisms.

·         Raw materials are checked against product specifications before being tested.

·         Products are visually inspected again during production.

·         Raw materials are weighed and dispensed.

·         Once blended, the products undergo Organoleptic testing to ensure they match our detailed
product specifications, before final approval.

Is Hexane used during the production of your pea protein?

No. Our Pea Protein is certified by Ecocert France, which, among other things, means it is water extracted and no Hexane, Acids or Alkalis are used in extraction.

Do you add BCAAs into your blends?

The BCAAs in our formulation are not added – they come from the constituent proteins we use – pea, rice and pumpkin seed. We use this combination exactly so we achieve a complete amino acid profile and over 5g of BCAAs per serving.

What are digestive enzymes?

Addition of digestive enzymes to pea and rice protein blends has been shown to increase time to peak concentrations of amino acids in the blood. Put simply this means the digestive enzymes help your body breakdown and absorb the protein quicker.

You can read more about digestive enzymes in our article here.

What is DigeZyme®?

DigeZyme® is a complex of digestive enzymes combining Protease, Amylase, Lactase, Lipase and Cellulase.

Each enzyme breaks down a different macronutrient (Protease for proteins, Amylase for carbohydrates, Lipase for fats, Cellulase for plant fibres) meaning your body can absorb more of the goodness from our products.

DigeZyme® is derived from microbial sources and is gluten and GMO-free.

Does your protein contain added caffeine?

Our protein does not contain added caffeine. But our chocolate blends will contain small amounts of caffeine due to the cocoa powder and each serving contains roughly up to 5mg of caffeine.

Why does Superblend look green?

Because it’s packed full of healthy greens such as spinach, kale and broccoli powders. We could have added an artificial colour to hide it, but why would we do that?!

Are any of your protein peanut/nut-free?

Only the Performance Chocolate Peanut contains peanuts (via a natural peanut flavouring).

For Peakblend Chocolate Peanut and Superblend Chocolate Peanut we use an allergen-free peanut flavouring. For Performance Chocolate Hazelnut, we use an allergen-free hazelnut flavouring.

Our products are manufactured in a factory that handles nut products therefore it isn’t a peanut/nut-free facility but they are BRC compliant. To ensure there are no cross contaminations between our products (and other products) our factory is very thorough with the clean down process.

Are your protein gluten-free?

The products and all ingredients are gluten-free. The factory does handle other product with gluten, however there is always a full clean down after handling any allergen.

I'm pretty sure I'm eating a balanced diet. Are supplements still useful for me?

Absolutely!

We would all like to have the time and energy to prepare nutritious meals from scratch every day to ensure we are getting all of the goodness we need.

The reality is, in today’s hectic world, few people have the time, resources and energy to find the best, freshest ingredients and ensure they are consuming a truly balanced diet.

This is truer still if you require additional protein and nutrients to supplement your training and build or repair muscles after workouts.

Can I take your products while I am pregnant or breastfeeding?

Superblend and Peakblend are not recommended however due to the added vitamins.

Pregnant women are more at risk from fat soluble vitamins such as Vitamin A.

As Superblend contains 50% and Peakblend contains 17% of the RDA for Vitamin A, we are required to include this disclaimer, since it could be harmful if you over consume the product.

Why does my product taste slightly different to last time?

All our ingredients are natural, which means they can vary slightly from season to season and crop to crop.

We work hard to minimise this natural variation in flavouring. One example is our organic pea protein, which forms a large part of our protein base. To make the protein, the soaking time of the peas is different in summer and winter, and this can cause slight differences in taste and texture because the longer the soaking time, the greater the fermentation and protein hydrolysis.

What are the main differences between Superblend and Performance Protein?

Both products deliver very good quantities of protein per serving (20g for Superblend and 30g for Performance). The main difference is that Performance is geared more toward post-exercise recovery as it has curcumin to reduce inflammation and improve immunity.

Superblend has fruits and greens powders, plus 7g of fibre per serving, so it’s more for getting your daily requirements of nutrients and is not so focussed on physical activity.

We also offer different flavours for these 2 products.

Which protein is right for me?

To help you find the best Form protein for you, we’ve created this short quiz.

What's the difference between the proteins you offer?

Superblend was formulated as a healthy snack, breakfast on the go or sweet treat, it has 20g plant based protein per serving as well as maca, fibre, greens and fruit powders as well as vitamins, minerals and digestive enzymes! So it is really packed full of nutrients and the fibre and digestive enzymes are really good for a healthy gut. It comes in Chocolate Salted Caramel, Chocolate Peanut, Vanilla, Key Lime and Toffee flavours.

Performance was formulated for post work-out, so it has higher plant based protein (30g) than Superblend. Performance also has curcumin and black pepper extract which as a combination is proven to be anti-inflammatory – helping you recover faster. It also has digestive enzymes and comes in Chocolate Hazelnut, Banoffee, Chocolate Peanut, Vanilla and Tiramisu flavours.

Pureblend is unflavoured and unsweetened so it is perfect to use if you prefer to keep your smoothies unsweetened and unflavoured. Or you could also mix the Pureblend with one of our other flavoured blends to customise the right sweetness for you. It is also great to add into savoury dishes and baking for that extra boost of protein.

Peakblend reimagines our award-winning vegan protein and adds everything you need to create a perfectly balanced, great-tasting, nutritionally complete vegan meal replacement. It comes in Banoffee and Chocolate Peanut flavours.

If you’re hoping to get maximum protein – Performance

If you want added vitamins and minerals, though slightly less protein – Superblend

If you’re looking for unsweetened – Pureblend

If you’re looking for a nutritionally complete vegan meal replacement – Peakblend

How much fibre is in the protein?

There is no fibre in Performance & Pureblend Protein, however Superblend contains 7g per serving and Peakblend contains 6g per serving!

What about protein over consumption?

Protein overconsumption is not a concern if you are eating a balanced diet and using supplements as directed and not more.

You can read more about protein overconsumption in our article here.

Can I heat my protein?

Yes, this is no problem at all. It’s perfectly fine to heat or cook with any of our protein blends.

Where is the scoop?

We’ve removed scoops as it was requested by many customers and we’ve added instructions to enable the use of tablespoons. This is part of our move towards a goal of complete plastic free packaging. This is noted in the usage instructions on pack and a serving of 40g is approximately 2 heaped tablespoons. If reaching the correct amount of protein is of importance, we suggest using a scale for accuracy.

How many tablespoons is a serving (40g)?

As tablespoons can be subjective, we always recommend customers to weigh their serving (if not every time, at least the first few times) so customers can gauge how heaped the tablespoon needs to be for the serving. If you have measuring cups, it measures approximately 1/3 cup. We would always recommend using a scale if hitting the right gram of protein is of importance.

Do you offer free samples?

I’m afraid we don’t offer free samples but we do sell travel sachets for Performance – VanillaTiramisu and Superblend – Chocolate Salted Caramel. They come in 3 sachets of 40g (3 x 1 serving).

What is the shelf life of your protein?

2 years from date of manufacture. Just make sure to store it in a cool dry place and keep it sealed/airtight.

How do I compost the packaging?

Our compostable packaging is certified to EN13432. This means it will compost within 12 weeks in an industrial composter. It will also compost in home compost but since there is no standard for home composters we can’t guarantee the time it will take but in most cases would be around the same.

Does your protein contain creatine?

There is no creatine in our products. As a plant based protein – you normally find creatine in animal based products, or a specific creatine supplement.

Do you test for heavy metals?

We ensure our ingredients are of the highest quality, as well as GMO free and organic wherever possible. They are as minimally processed as possible to retain maximum nutrition. We test for heavy metals and you can read more on our testing approach as well as download test results here.

stainless steel shaker

Can I wash the shaker and cap in the dishwasher?

Our stainless steel shaker isn’t dishwasher safe, it must be hand-washed only. To keep the cap in the best condition possible we also advise customers to hand-wash the cap as well, due to the fact that water temperatures vary for dishwasher settings – this might cause the cap to crack over time. As well as the possibility of staining the cap depending on what else is in the dishwasher.

How do I clean the shaker?

To keep your shaker as clean as possible, take all the components apart to wash after each use. Components need to be scrubbed with detergent, rinsed and washed well. Make sure to dry all components immediately and make sure the components are not reassembled until the next use.

Can I put hot liquid in the shaker?

BioPerine® is a patented extract obtained from black pepper fruits (Piper nigrum) standardized minimum to 95% Piperine.

No, our stainless steel shaker isn’t suitable for hot liquid.

Can I microwave the shaker?

No, our stainless steel shaker isn’t microwave-safe.

nootropics/capsules

What exactly is a Nootropic?

Nootropics are compounds that are proven to be cognition-enhancing, increasing capacities such as focus, alertness and memory.

The most obvious examples of nootropics we consume regularly without realising are B vitamins and caffeine.

What are your capsules made of?

We use vegetable capsules which are suitable for vegan diets. Ours are the highest grade two-piece Hydroxypropylmethyl cellulose (HPMC) capsules, completely formed from plant-based substances.

I heard Nootropics are unsafe. Is that true?

All of the ingredients in our Nootropic products are acceptable as a dietary supplement compound by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA).

Our component ingredients are permitted under the guidelines for all major athletic bodies, including the WADA (World Anti-Doping Agency).

We design our products for long-term use, and only include ingredients which are safe, legal and backed by the most valid scientific research possible.

When should I take Boost? How long does the effects last?

We recommend taking 1 capsule about 30 minutes before a workout/meeting. You’d feel the effects for about 30 minutes – 1 hour.

Better still, Boost combines caffeine with L-Theanine for a less jittery sensation, and adds in other nootropics for cognitive enhancement.

How is Boost better than a cup of coffee?

You probably enjoy the boost in focus a cup of coffee can provide, but may not like the other substances found in your morning pick-me-up, such as Putrescine and Dimethyl Disulfide.

It can also be challenging to understand just how much caffeine you’re getting in a cup of coffee as strengths vary significantly according to method of preparation and the type of bean used.

Boost simplifies the process by providing a constant 100mg of caffeine per serving (roughly equivalent to a single standard sized Americano) without any of the nasty chemicals found in low quality coffee.

Better still, Boost combines caffeine with L-Theanine for a less jittery sensation, and adds in other nootropics for cognitive enhancement.

I didn't 'feel' anything the first time I took Edge. Is that normal?

Edge is caffeine free, meaning you won’t get the same initial sensation as you would with Boost. The effect is subtle and many describe it as simply feeling sharper and more energised during the day.

The effects of the ingredients in Edge compound when taken regularly, so with consistent use, you may begin seeing increased memory, energy and efficiency in cognitive tasks within 2-12 weeks.

What are the benefits of BioPerine®?

BioPerine® is a patented extract obtained from black pepper fruits (Piper nigrum) standardized minimum to 95% Piperine.

It has been used as a bioavailability enhancer for over 20 years and, in general, has been found to increase absorption of nutrients by at least 30%.

It is GRAS (Generally Recognised as Safe) by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA)

We have included BioPerine® in all of our products so you can absorb the most nutrients from our powders and capsules, to enjoy the maximum benefits they provide.

Can I take Boost and Edge together?

Edge is a daily cognitive enhancer which will produce effects cumulatively as you take it over a period of several weeks. Boost has a more immediate and noticeable effect due to the caffeine and L-theanine, meaning it’s great for smaller windows of time in which you need that extra lift.

You can most certainly take them together as a ‘stack’ or take them on the same day at different times as you feel necessary. Just remember Edge is taken daily, Boost is as required.

In any case be sure not to exceed the maximum dose per day, per product and use them as part of a healthy, balanced diet and lifestyle.

When should I take ZZZZs?

One capsule about 30 – 60 minutes before you go to bed.

Does Radiant support joint and bone health?

Radiant contains strong antioxidants and Coll-egan® which are supportive for joint and bone health. Antioxidants help stimulate the production of bone-forming cells, reduce inflammation and studies have indicated a correlation between the level of oxidative stress and osteoporosis – meaning antioxidants should be beneficial for the prevention of bone loss.

Can I take Radiant with Multi/Superblend?

We formulate all our products so even if you took them all, you wouldn’t go above any safe upper limits on any vitamins etc.

Can I take Radiant if I'm pregnant or breastfeeding?

We wouldn’t recommend taking Radiant due to the added vitamin A. As always we recommend customers to clear it with their practitioners, before consuming any supplements to double check.

Can I take Multi if I'm pregnant or breastfeeding?

We wouldn’t recommend taking Multi due to the added vitamin A. As always we recommend customers to clear it with their practitioners, before consuming any supplements to double check.
