{"id":231669,"date":"2020-05-08T06:00:30","date_gmt":"2020-05-08T10:00:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/formnutrition.com\/us\/?p=231669"},"modified":"2020-06-02T06:40:22","modified_gmt":"2020-06-02T10:40:22","slug":"professor-green-lockdown-interview","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/formnutrition.com\/us\/inform\/professor-green-lockdown-interview\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;I Can Feel a Pyjama Day Coming&#8217;: Professor Green on Life in Lockdown"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>From penning numerous columns on mental health and a mountain of charity work, to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/gizandgreens\/?hl=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">food blog<\/a> with chef Gizzi Erskine making home-made versions of your favourite takeaways, rapper <a href=\"https:\/\/www.professorgreen.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Professor Green<\/a> aka Stephen Manderson is a wellness warrior of the highest order.<\/p>\n<p>A friend of Form, we checked in on Mr. Green to see how he&#8217;s coping during lockdown (he is currently stuck in Morocco), what life lessons he has learned along the way and why the modest kettlebell is keeping him sane.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h3><em><strong>How are you keeping your mind healthy during this difficult time?<\/strong><\/em><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>It hasn\u2019t been easy, but balance is important. I\u2019m not being too hard on myself and I don\u2019t think anyone should be. It\u2019s great if you\u2019re motivated but this is a marathon and not a sprint; conserve enough energy to see you through it; there\u2019s a high chance if you over-do it &#8211; be it exercise, work, a new craft, a language, anything &#8211; you\u2019ll burn out, or get bored and stop.<\/p>\n<p>I was <a href=\"https:\/\/formnutrition.com\/inform\/the-complete-home-workout-guide-that-will-make-you-forget-all-about-the-gym\/\">working out twice a day<\/a> on most days when this began, which has quickly changed. Something to remember is that with everything else happening this might not be the time to start loading on more pressure with new goals or tasks.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s great to have something to look forward to so I\u2019ve been planning things for different days, things to cook and things to watch. I&#8217;m being careful not to fall into the trap of pressuring myself to do more then I would normally though because of the illusion of \u2018all of this extra time\u2019 we have on our hands. I\u2019m in Tangier in Morocco and don\u2019t have any <a href=\"https:\/\/formnutrition.com\/plant-based-nutrition\/form-superblend-plant-based-vegan-protein\/\">Form<\/a> to hand. Ramadan started on the 29th April too. I\u2019m not Muslim but I am following the <a href=\"https:\/\/formnutrition.com\/inform\/intermittent-fasting\/\">fasting part<\/a> and finding it even harder to get my eating right.<\/p>\n<p>That and the monotony of this period led to me simplifying my workouts. I do six or seven exercises and high reps of each. As a kid I was a book worm but somewhere along the way work and my social life distracted me from how much I appreciate books.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ve also started <a href=\"https:\/\/formnutrition.com\/inform\/chef-jason-atherton-shares-his-best-vegan-cooking-tips\/\">cooking<\/a> a lot. During fasting or \u2018iftar\u2019, which is when you break fast as the sun goes down means, you have all day to get excited about what you\u2019re going to make, and all that time to prepare it too. It\u2019s done me the world of good. The hours I work and all the travelling I do have led to me being quite lazy in the kitchen and relying on eating out and ordering take away a lot. I haven\u2019t had a take away in eight weeks and I\u2019ve cooked every one of those 56 days.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h3><em><strong>What&#8217;s been your most treasured possession through the lockdown?<\/strong><\/em><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>A 16kg kettlebell.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h3><strong><em>What&#8217;s in your fridge at the moment?<\/em><\/strong><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>A lot of colours. Morocco is brilliant because most things grow here, so lots of gorgeous fresh <a href=\"https:\/\/formnutrition.com\/inform\/8-foods-and-vitamins-that-help-boost-your-immune-system\/\">fruit and veg<\/a>. As a part-time insomniac it&#8217;s on one hand one of the most informative books I\u2019ve ever read and on the other its one of the scariest.<\/p>\n<p>And then &#8216;Reaching Down the Rabbit Hole\u2019 by Allan Ropper and \u2018Missing Microbes\u2019 by Martin J. Blaser. I\u2019d recommend all three.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h3><em><strong>What apps, if any, are you hooked on?<\/strong><\/em><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I\u2019m not really an <a href=\"https:\/\/formnutrition.com\/inform\/6-work-from-home-apps-to-make-your-life-more-efficient-and-enjoyable\/\">app<\/a> person. I spend too much time on my phone as it is. I left school at 13 and despite teaching myself many things, languages aren\u2019t my strong point.<\/p>\n<p>My partner is Moroccan so we are spending quite a lot of time here. You need to be able to speak Arabic, French, and Spanish to survive, so along with a few bits of basic Arabic I\u2019m picking up, I\u2019ve started to learn French using Rosetta Stone.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h3><em><strong>What Netflix\/TV shows have you been binge-watching recently?<\/strong><\/em><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The third season of Ozark, The Outsider, and lots of Masterchef. I don\u2019t watch TV until a while after dinner so I haven\u2019t over-indulged. I can feel a pyjama day coming though.
